History Of Our School

Our school’s history goes back to the establishment of  the old Edenderry Boys’ School in St. Joseph’s Hall on St. Mary’s Road in 1835. In 1959, the school moved to its present location on Gilroy Avenue and was renamed Scoil Muire Banríon, but was still known locally as ‘the Boys’ School’.

In September 2017, the school became co-educational and enrolled our first Junior Infant girls and boys.

In 2019 we formally introduced our new school name, St Patrick’s Primary School. Along with this name change, an extension was built adding new offices and toilet blocks.

The first principal of Scoil Muire Banríon was Mr. John P Keane, until he retired in 1975. He was followed by Mr Eddie Moran until 1978 when Mr. Seán Fitzgerald took over. Mr Fitzgerald retired in August 2012 and was replaced by Ms. Nicola McMahon. Acting Principals from 2020 – 2023 were Mr. Shane O’Looney (2020 -2022) and Mr. Kyran Foran (2023)  until the appointment of our current principal in December 2023, Ms Ann Bracken.
